Review of Maine State Labor Laws

Presenter: Elaine Brackett
Labor & Safety Inspector - Maine Department of Labor

Elaine is the Labor & Safety inspector for several Maine counties, enforcing labor laws, handling complaints, and presenting Workplace Rights classes on labor laws.  She has been with the ME DOL since 2009, starting in the unemployment insurance department moving to the Labor and Safety team in 2013.

A review of the Maine labor laws, including but not limited to the following topics:

  • Maine DOL vs. US DOL
  • Unfair Agreements
  • Time worked (non-approved hours, timely submission of timesheets, etc.)
  • Breaks
  • Cessation (withholding final paycheck, loans, vacation time, etc.)
  • Personnel Fle
  • Overcompensation
  • Pay Statements


Fundementals and Best Practices for Handling Taxation of Multi-State Employees  (WebEx session)

Presenter: Vicki M. Lambert, CPP
President and Academic Director - The Payroll Advisor

Ms. Lambert is the president and academic director of The Payroll Advisor, a firm specializing in payroll eduction and training.  The company's website offers a payroll news service which keeps payroll professionals up to date on the latest rules and regulaitons.  With over 35 years of hands-on experience in all facets of payroll functions, as well as over 20 years as a trainer and author, Ms. Lambert has become the most sought-after and respected voice in the practice and management of payroll issues.

Ms. Lambert is located on the west coast, and will be presenting this topic via WebEx.  If you have a laptop, you are encouraged to bring it so you may connect to the WebEx and submit any questions you may have directly to Ms. Lambert.  We will have other laptops available for use, if needed.
